been on a road trip …or should I say
more of a head trip…
this last week
first stop
SweetUP 2012…
the road to this very successful event…
was a pretty bumpy one
lets just say..lots of pot holes & red lights till we got there
but on arrival…it was a smooth a landing
I could have ever wished and hoped for.
that first leg of a road trip is always the hardest
I find…the packing, the arranging, the getting into the car…
and finally getting your groove on the road… and you have to stop…
this one was no different
but it is after the Sweet UP stop
and my need for the free open road
just me & my Tunie B.
that my road trip became FUN & something just a little more
“trippy”
decided each day was gonna be a different adventure
2nd stop
THE BEACH
(even though IMISSED THE ELAL FARE the one day I decide to go sans wifi!)
one of my favorite place to just Chilax
book, sand in the toes, hot breezy air, sounds of the ocean
time to just be the “fun” mom I want to be
making the same memories with my Tunie B.
that I had of my childhood summers in westport, long beach, nantucket…
making sure her summer days are as glorious as I can make them
but as I dig hole after hole with my shovel, making sand castles and moats
those darn lonely birds are buzzing around my head…
and no matter what I do
there is just one hole
I can’t seem to fill
no matter how many things I try to fill it with…
yes I know that the hole will get smaller
as the days, months, years, pile in
but….
it doesn’t make it any less empty
any less lonely
any less crappy (it is what it is)
right now
3rd stop Sesame Place
the street where all dreams are possible
and hugs from furry monsters and big yellow birds
make the world seem for right this moment a little more….ok
yet…. how I got to Sesame Street that day…
was the same road I traveled with my ex
every time we went to visit his family…
the same road I worried about as I wished him a safe journey every day
to go to work…and then to get back to us…
a road where I sat holding his hand in the car
as he showed the shortcuts and landmarks
to make the trip easier….
the road where there are piled …discreetly
the many bags of “morning sickness”
as we visited often the “other side”
during those 9 months of bliss.
….my head trip that day as I steered the wheel forward
was not the road trip I had planned to take
but it is the journey that I am on….
and no matter how far or where I go
I can’t leave it behind….
it travels right besides me on this
…..road trip I am on.
4th stop Popcorn Zoo
for a 2.5 year old can it get any better than this?
animals and popcorn
all her love and laughter for these
poor animals who were mistreated…
but now found a new home….and are living happily ever after
so will we?
I have no choice (and that is the killer for me…)
but to
let the road….just take me.
next stop BOSTON, HYANNIS, NANTUCKET & CAMP STERNBERG. (stay tuned for the best recipes and local spots from these places!)
Here are some pics from the road…
the above picture of NY road is me & fashion-isha getting going down time square at 7am Sunday Morning – the place was a ghost town.
All the stuff we made the night before in my house at 3 AM – then shlepped for Sweetup 2012 – but it was worth all the work! & only Sharon can look glam in her snood at that hour in the morning!!!
Tunie B. finally loving the sand (it took a while my neat freak of a daughter -she didn’t want to get her toes “dirty” LOL)!
My favorite secret spot 25 minutes from my house – exclusive, no one is around, no food, no bathrooms only for the locals really and hefty beach fees – but sooo worth the clean quiet beach! Reminds me a little of Nantucket.
Me & Tunie B. – pure love!
It’s ELMO TIME!! Cousin Ari K & Tunie B. rockin to that ELMO BEAT! (I personally think Sesame Place is one of the BEST PLACES you can go with your Kids)
Since it is only 45 minutes from my house, we like to go on a super HOT day, a little later on a weekday, get the half price tickets, and have the park less crowded. Primo seats, short lines and more face time with the characters!
dressing up for the night parade…
waiting patiently for all our favorites to come….and then
out cold missed it all… but still a great day had by all!
Popcorn & Animals – everything from ducks, monkeys, lions, cougars, bears, OH MY SO MUCH FUN!
one of the ponies that were saved from living in someones basement in crazy squalor conditions(can u believe that?) She loves to have her hair groomed by hand by Matt (the guy who feeds and takes care of her)
Feeding time….my work as a chef is never done
